Action on climate change is not only urgent but it must deliver justice. Every month Aylesbury Quakers hold an open-air meeting for worship in the market square to draw attention to this problem.
Our Quaker testimony to equality invites us to examine and challenge the root causes of inequality in the world. Climate breakdown affects us all, but it does not affect us all equally. The people who benefited least from the fossil-fuel era are now suffering the most.
The wealthiest countries gained their wealth through colonisation and exploitation. They have already emitted far more than their fair share of carbon. Climate Justice means working against continuing this international oppression to repair the root causes of climate breakdown.
